Program Overview

The California Arts Council (CAC) is accepting applications for the 2025 Cultural Districts Grant Program (CDGP), which will designate up to 10 new state‑recognized California Cultural Districts. These districts are vibrant, creative communities that foster cultural, economic, and social vitality.

Program Timeline

Designation Period: January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2030

Grant Activity Period: January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2030(Funding allocation: $5,000 per year, total of $10,000 per district)

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must form a three-entity partnership, which includes:

1. An arts and/or cultural nonprofit or collective – primarily responsible for cultural preservation and the production of new cultural content

2. A local business or business association (business, chamber of commerce, or community development corporation) – contributes to outreach, marketing, and financial support

3. A local government entity (e.g., city or county office) – provides land-use oversight for the proposed cultural district

Application Requirements

While the full guidelines are available via the portal, applications typically include:

1. A Letter of Intent or Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among partners

2. A Project Work Plan detailing goals, key activities, timeline, and budget

3. Organization profiles with past project experience

4. Visuals such as maps and photographs to illustrate cultural district features

Grant Amount & Deadline

Each designated district will receive a $10,000 two-year grant

Grantee Responsibilities

Designated districts are expected to:
