What is California VIP Program?
The California Violence Intervention and Prevention Program (CalVIP) Grant is an initiative aimed at enhancing public health and safety through support for community-based gun violence reduction efforts in communities that are disproportionately impacted by gun violence. Administered by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), the purpose of the grant is to disrupt cycles of violence and retaliatory actions in order to lower the rates of homicides, shootings, and aggravated assaults in affected communities. CalVIP grants fund a variety of evidence-based programs designed to reduce community gun violence, such as:
• Hospital-Based Violence Intervention
• Focused Deterrence (e.g., Group Violence Intervention)
• Street Outreach
• Credible Messengers/Mentoring
• Therapeutic Behavioral Services
• Survivor Centered Supports
• Incident Response/Rumor Control
• Gun Diversion
• Employment/Job Training
• Intensive Case Management
• Behavioral Health Services
Our Role
As a convener organization, Fun Young Inc is currently forming a strong program coalition to apply for and implement the CalVIP grant, with a maximum grant amount of $5,000,000. We are actively seeking Community-based Organizations (must have 501(c)(3) status), professional service providers (e.g. safety training services), and public agencies (e.g. city governments, police departments, school districts) to co-apply and submit a high-impact violence intervention and prevention program to the BSCC.
We are looking for partners such as:
- Community-based Organization (to deliver proven or promising violence intervention models (e.g., street outreach, trauma recovery, youth diversion, restorative justice))
- Public agencies (e.g., city governments, police departments, schools, or housing department)
- Service providers (to collaborate as subcontractor to provide community outreach, mental health support, safety training, case management, etc.) for individuals at highest risk of gun violence
Why Partner with Us?
Fun Young Inc is preparing for a $1 million – $5 million grant application to target eligible cities in Los Angeles County and its adjacent counties, including Adelanto, Anaheim, Adelanto, Banning, Barstow, Bell, Bell Flower, Carson, Colton, Commerce, Compton, Gardena, Hawthorne, Huntington Park, Inglewood, Lakewood, Lancaster, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Lynwood, Montclair, Montebello, Norwalk, Palmdale, Paramount, Pico Rivera, Pomona, San Bernardino, Santa Ana, South Gate, and Victorville.
Pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 762, we aim to work with our partners to effectively reduce community gun violence in one or multiple cities abovementioned. Besides, we plan to use these funds for violence intervention programs and other services in order to recruit, retain, and sustain frontline professionals.
We aim to serve the greater Los Angeles area, a culturally and economically dynamic region that will play a frontline role in welcoming global visitors. In preparation for the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, our proposed initiative focuses on rising safety concerns of the local residents and global visitors. Los Angeles County and its adjacent counties are expected to experience substantial growth in population due to increased tourism demand. Through this CalVIP initiative, we plan to:
